David Olatukunbo Alaba is an Austrian international footballer who plays for Real Madrid and captains the Austria national team.
He has played in a number of positions, including central midfield, right and left-wing, but has thrived as a left defender as of spring 2012.
Alaba Started his career with SV Aspern, his hometown club in Aspern’s 22nd district, Donaustadt, before joining Austrian Austria Vienna’s youth setup at age ten.
He was named to the first-team substitutes’ bench for a Bundesliga match in April 2008. He began his career in Bayern’s youth system, playing for the U-17 and U-19 teams before being promoted to the reserve team in 2009-10.
In August 2009, he made his La Liga debut against Dynamo Dresden. He was picked to Bayern Munich’s UEFA Champions League team for 2009-10. Alaba, at 19, received the prestigious Austrian Footballer of the Year award in 2011.
He appeared in the UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg against Real Madrid on April 25, 2012, and was one of the players who helped Bayern win in a penalty shoot-out. On 16 October 2012, he scored his first goal for Austria in a World Cup Qualifying game against Kazakhstan.
In 2021, Alaba signed for Real Madrid; he won the 2021–22 La Liga, Supercopa and Champions League title in his debut season.
