Hugo Hadrien Dominique Lloris is a French professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur. He is a three-time winner of the National Union of Professional Footballers Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year award.
Lloris began his career at his native club OGC Nice, making his debut as a youngster in October 2005 and starting in goal during the team’s journey to the Coupe de la Ligue Final in 2006. After three seasons with the club, Lloris went to seven-time Ligue 1 winner Olympique Lyonnais, despite interest from numerous other clubs, most notably Inter Milan. Lloris won several domestic honours in his first season with Lyon and received nominations for his UEFA Champions League efforts in his second season, which saw Lyon reach the semi-finals for the first time. He joined Tottenham in 2012 and was instrumental in the club reaching the Champions League final in 2019.
Lloris was a French international who played for his country at the under-18, under-19, and under-21 levels. Prior to his senior debut, he was a member of the under-19 team that won the 2005 UEFA European Under-19 Championship.
Lloris made his senior international debut against Uruguay in November 2008. He helped France qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup and was praised by the media for his performance in the qualification playoffs over two legs against the Republic of Ireland.
He captained the national team for the first time in 2010 and was named first-choice captain on February 28, 2012, leading France to the quarter-finals of both UEFA Euro 2012 and the 2014 FIFA World Cup, finishing runners-up at UEFA Euro 2016 and the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. He has the most caps for France.
