Emerson Aparecido Leite de Souza Junior, known as Emerson Royal, is a professional footballer who plays as a defender (right-back or right wing-back) for Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur and the Brazil national team. He was born in São Paulo, Brazil.

Emerson started out in his homeland with spells in the youth systems at Palmeiras, São Paulo and Grêmio before joining Ponte Preta in 2015. He graduated to Ponte Preta’s senior squad, making his senior debut in 2017, before transferring to Atlético Mineiro in 2018.

In January 2019, he joined Real Betis Balompié in Spain and made 79 appearances, scoring five goals over the next two-and-a-half seasons.

Following his participation at the Copa America with Brazil, Barcelona acquired his services over the summer of 2021, having previously been involved in his move from South America, and he made three La Liga appearances for Barca at the beginning of the 2021/22 season.

Emerson Royal joined Tottenham Hotspur in August 2021 from Barcelona.

At international level, Emerson has represented Brazil at Under-20, Under-23, and senior levels. He made his senior international debut for Brazil in November 2019.
