Additional Info
John Stones came up through Barnsley’s youth program and made a name for himself as a confident, ball-playing centre back with Everton before signing with City in August 2016.
The defender, a seasoned member of the England national team, signed a six-year contract to join Man City as the eighth player signed during the summer 2016 transfer window. Since then, he has taken home every domestic trophy available.
Stones has also shown his defensive agility thus far in the 2022–23 season, excelling both at right back and in the middle of the defense.
He also happens to be among five City players selected for the England World Cup team in 2022.
Stones had a good tournament in Qatar, making five starts to help England advance to the quarterfinals before losing to France 2-1.
His ability to play both on defense and in the middle of the field for City has resulted in exceptional play towards the end of the season.
Stones scored in Man City’s 4-1 victory over Arsenal, one of City’s 10 straight victories when Stones was on the field, and he also contributed to their third straight Premier League championship.
The England international was outstanding as City defeated Manchester United 2-1 in the FA Cup final, giving him his first trophy of the competition.
Stones contributed significantly to Manchester City’s 1-0 victory over Inter in the Champions League final, which enabled City to capture their first-ever Treble.
