Anthony Jordan Martial is a French professional footballer who plays as a forward for Manchester United in the Premier League.
Martial began his professional career with Lyon after playing youth football for Les Ulis before signing to AS Monaco in 2013 for a cost of €6 million. He spent two seasons with Monaco before joining Manchester United in 2015 for an initial sum of £36 million that may increase to £57.6 million, making it the largest fee paid for a teenager in football history at the time. He won the Golden Boy Award for the best under-21 player in Europe in 2015.
He won the 2015-16 FA Cup in his rookie season with Manchester United, establishing himself as one of the world’s most exciting talents. His progress stopped the next season, but he won more trophies under Jose Mourinho’s tutelage. In 2019-20, Martial had his finest goalscoring season yet, scoring 23 times in all competitions, and he was named Manchester United Players’ Player of the Year. However, his form deteriorated in subsequent seasons, and Martial was loaned out to Spanish club Sevilla until the conclusion of the 2021-22 season in January 2022.
Martial, a France youth international from under-16 to under-21, made his senior debut in 2015. He was picked to their team for UEFA Euro 2016, where he played in the final before France was defeated by Portugal.
