Matthew James Doherty is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a right-back for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League and for the Republic of Ireland national team.

Wolverhampton Wanderers signed Doherty in 2010, and he spent pre-season with his Irish club Bohemians. He acquired senior football experience on loan at Hibernian and Bury before breaking into the Wolves first squad. Doherty spent eight years at Molineux, making 302 appearances in all competitions. Doherty gained his first call-up to the senior Republic of Ireland squad in 2016 after representing the Republic of Ireland U21s.

Doherty returned to Wolverhampton Wanderers in July 2023 after spells at Tottenham Hotspur and Atlético Madrid.
