Matthijs de Ligt is a professional footballer who plays as a central defender for Bundesliga club Bayern Munich and the Netherlands national team. He was born in Leiderdorp, Netherlands.

De Ligt joined FC Bayern in the summer of 2022. He started his professional career in Amsterdam with Ajax. He led his team to the league and cup double as the youngest captain in the club’s history (2019).

For the next season, he moved to Juventus. In Turin, he celebrated one championship, one domestic cup triumph and one Supercup victory.

De Ligt has represented Netherlands at various levels, including at under-15, -16, -17 and -19 levels. In 2017, he made his debut for the Netherlands’ national first team at the age of 17, making him the youngest player to start for the national team since 1931.
