Mikkel was raised in Jyllinge, Denmark, where he started playing football at the age of four under the guidance of his father. FC Nordsjaelland’s U12 scout was there to check out another player but left extremely pleased by Damsgaard.
At the age of 17, he made his first team appearance against Vejgaard BK in the Danish Cup in September 2017. In addition, he played 93 games for the team in the Danish Superliga and Europa League qualifiers.
On August 10th, 2022, Damsgaard agreed to a five-year contract with Brentford.
