Asmir Begovic is a Bosnian goalkeeper who, having departed Everton, was a free agent. Born in Trebinje in 1987, he left during the Bosnian War and grew up in Germany and Canada before joining Portsmouth, where he made his Premier League debut in 2009. A £3.25m move to Stoke City in 2010 made his name, and he memorably entered the Guinness World Records in November 2013 by scoring from his own goal-line against Southampton, a 91.9-metre strike that stood as the longest goal in football for seven years. Chelsea signed him for around £8m in 2015, and he later turned out for Bournemouth, Everton, QPR and Leicester. Internationally he helped Bosnia and Herzegovina reach their first major tournament, the 2014 World Cup. His most recent deal ran until June 2025, with his reported wage around £30,000 a week.
