Damián Emiliano Martínez Romero is a professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Premier League club Aston Villa and the Argentina national team. He was born in Mar del Plata, Argentina.

He began his career playing for Independiente’s youth team before moving to Arsenal in 2010. Before joining the starting lineup for Arsenal in 2019, he served as an understudy and was loaned out to several clubs.

Martínez joined Aston Villa in September 2020, making the move to the midlands after spending ten years at Arsenal.

He had represented Argentina at under-17 and under-20 levels.

Martínez won Finalissima with La Albiceleste at Wembley in June 2022 before celebrating the biggest night of his football career as he lifted the World Cup with Argentina in December 2022 and, with it, picked up the Golden Glove Award for the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
