James Philip Milner MBE is an English professional footballer who currently plays for Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion as a midfielder. Milner, a versatile player, has played in a variety of positions, including wing, midfield, and full back.

Milner’s ability in football, cricket, and long-distance running was quickly noted in his early years. He represented Horsforth School in various sports and also played football for Rawdon and Horsforth amateur teams. He has been a fan of Leeds United since he was a child, joining the Leeds Youth Academy in 1996. He made his first-team debut in 2002, aged 16, and rose to fame as the Premier League’s youngest player to score. He later spent time on loan at Swindon Town to obtain further first-team experience. Milner was traded to Newcastle United after Leeds United were relegated at the end of the 2003-04 season.

Milner went on to make over 100 appearances for Newcastle United, winning the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2006 and spending a year on loan at Aston Villa before earning a permanent contract with the club in 2008. Milner was signed by Manchester City after winning the PFA Young Player of the Year award in 2010. He went on to win two Premier Leagues, one FA Cup, one League Cup, and one FA Community Shield. Milner joined Liverpool on a free transfer in 2015 and was named vice-captain. In 2019, he won the UEFA Champions League, his third Premier League title, the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, and another FA Cup and EFL Cup.

Milner made a record 46 games for England’s under-21 national team, appearing in the 2007 and 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Championships, finishing runner-up in the latter. He was a member of the senior national team and played 61 games, scoring once against Moldova. He was a member of the FIFA World Cup squads in 2010 and 2014, as well as the UEFA European Championship squads in 2012 and 2016.
