Biography

Hugill, Joseph Brennen was signed by Manchester United from Sunderland in the summer of 2020.

The striker from Durham spent a year at Newcastle United before joining the Black Cats.

Hugill made an immediate impact at United, quickly integrating into the Under-23s team despite his youth and adapting like a duck to water. This came after a two-goal debut against Blackburn Rovers at The Cliff.

The English forward’s persistent work ethic rewarded him with a spectacular goalscoring record in Neil Wood’s U23s team, highlighted by a four-goal haul against Liverpool in Premier League 2. Hugill became only the second Red in post-war history to score so many goals for the club in a single game against the Merseysiders. The first was Steve James.

After scoring 10 goals in 11 starts (plus seven substitute appearances) for the Under-23s and 6 goals in 6 for the Under-18s, he was promoted to training with the first-team squad in the 2021 offseason.

Hugill’s game time in the 2021/22 season was cut short due to injuries, including one sustained while on a work experience loan at Forest Green Rovers. In March 2022, the kid quickly got back into the swing of things, scoring five goals in five games.
