About
Dário Essugo is a Portuguese defensive midfielder who plays for Chelsea. A product of Sporting CP’s academy, he made history in March 2021 when he debuted at 16 years and six days old, becoming the youngest player ever to feature for the Lisbon club, later breaking Luís Figo’s record as Sporting’s youngest-ever starter. After spells with Sporting B and the first team, he gained senior experience on loan at Chaves and then at La Liga side Las Palmas, where he made 27 appearances during the 2024/25 campaign. A Portugal youth international who starred at the 2022 UEFA U-17 Championship, Essugo is prized for his physicality, ball recovery and progressive passing as a number six.
