Javier Manquillo Gaitán started playing football for Real Madrid’s youth team in 2004 and continued until 2006. In 2007, he joined Atletico Madrid’s youth team and began his career with the club.

On December 8, 2011, he made his competitive debut for the club in the Copa del Rey. On December 9, 2012, he made his La Liga debut for the club. He was then leased out to three other clubs, including Liverpool, Marseille and Sunderland.

On July 21, 2017, he signed a three-year contract with Premier League team Newcastle United. He made his Premier League debut for the club on August 13, 2017.
