John McGinn is a professional footballer who plays as a central midfielder for Premier League club Aston Villa, where he’s the team captain and the Scotland national team. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland and raised in Clydebank.

McGinn began his career as a youth player at St Mirren, playing for the club’s Ralston Academy. He joined Aston Villa from Hibernian in August 2018. Additionally, he signed a new four-year contract with Aston Villa in June 2023.

On the international stage, McGinn has represented Scotland at the under-19 and under-21 levels. He won Man of the Match on his senior Scotland debut in 2016. His form during UEFA EURO 2020 qualification earned him the Scotland Player of the Year award in 2019, and he went on to feature for the Scots at the delayed finals in 2021.
