Malick Thiaw is a Germany international defender who plays for Newcastle United. Born in Düsseldorf in August 2001 to a Senegalese father and Finnish mother, he came through the academy at Schalke 04 after earlier youth spells with Fortuna Düsseldorf, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Mönchengladbach, making his Bundesliga debut in March 2020. A commanding centre-back who can also fill in at right-back or in defensive midfield, he earned a move to AC Milan in 2022 and made 85 appearances across three seasons in Serie A, his lone goal coming in a 3-1 Champions League win at Real Madrid. He has won three caps for Germany. Newcastle signed him from Milan in August 2025 for a reported fee around £30m.
