In late August 2022, Wesley Fofana left Leicester City for Chelsea after agreeing to a seven-year deal.

Fofana, one of the most sought-after young talents in the English top flight, joined to strengthen the defence for the 2022–23 campaign after Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella joined earlier that summer.

After making an impression with Saint-Etienne in his native France, Fofana’s performances for Leicester over the course of two seasons in England further demonstrated his abilities as one of the game’s finest overall defenders.

He was selected as the Foxes’ Young Player of the Year in his first campaign in the Premier League in 2020/21, with one of his finest performances in England to date coming versus Chelsea during that season’s FA Cup final, as Leicester took home the trophy for the very first time.
